Mar 25, 2019AMHERST, N.Y. – ̨Swag College will hold a lecture and other events in celebration of National Public Health Week 2019 taking place April 1 to 7.
“Public Health Week celebrates the power of prevention, advocacy for healthy and fair policies, and champions the role of a strong public health system,” said Dr. Brian Wrotniak, director of the MPH program. “Our events offer a great way to be a part of a growing movement to create the healthiest nation in one generation.”
The college’s events will start on April 2 with MPH faculty and students handing out information on public health topics, including health disparities, sexual health, and homelessness. The information table will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Wick Campus Center lobby.
On April 4, “Foodborne and Waterborne Diseases” will be discussed by Christina Ostwald, adjunct professor of public health, at 7 p.m. in the Research and Information Commons Room 120.
Events scheduled for April 2 and 4 are free and open to the public.
A free workshop on April 5 for community health providers and professionals will be held from 4 to 8:30 p.m. in Duns Scotus Room 227. The workshop will focus on skills for health care providers related to their role in discussing infant adoption with women and families.
Dinner will be provided to workshop participants. Registration is required to attend by emailing jbrodhea@daemen.edu.
In May, ̨Swag will join the Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo in supporting the 2019 Walking to Wellness Initiative by hosting a community walk on May 4 from 10 to 11 a.m. The event, which is open to the public, will start on campus outside the Wick Campus Center.
